The Deserted Island Answers And…

Last week I had asked the questions below: Got a lot of great answers and none of them wrong of course. After all if is personal choice. Just thought-provoking. Love to see more … what are yours.

Here’s my answers . THEN  I have a follow-up question (too much time sipping beer at the bar with my chums).

1) What are the 5 musical artists (complete works) you would want while stranded on a deserted island?

The Beatles_

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (can I cheat and get all of their stuff together and apart) yes my question so my answer 🙂

Copeland  – this is a group lead by a guy named Aaron Marsh. They are pretty recent, but even for an old-timer like me… great stuff

Todd Rundgren (big fan – has had music in my life since high school and he has some profound lyrics)

Jason Mraz ( love him thanks to my daughter for that)

2) What are the 5 books you would want to while stranded on a deserted island?

The NIV Holy Bible

The Lathe of Heaven – Urlsa LeGuin

The Stand- Stephen King

The Hunger Games Trilogy ( probably just a “now’ thing)

Cutting for Stone- Abraham Verghese (currently trending to be one of my fave)

This is a question that can change alot (except for the first one) depending on my mood

.

3) What are the 5 movies you would want to have to watch while stranded on a deserted island? (Yes you would have a way to watch them too)

The Philadelphia Story (Stewart/Grant/Hepburn)

Dial M for Murder (or any Hitchcock movie really)

Les Misarables 25th Anniversary Show ( love musicals so instead of picking a real one- this will do just fine)

Shawshank Redemption– the story is timeless

Robin Hood (the one with Errol Flynn)

I could have cheated again and said something like The Star Wars Trilogy (you know which one) OR the LOTR Trilogy… could have- but thought that was extreme. 🙂

So my friend asked me:

a) What is your TV show theme song if your life was a TV show drama?

b) What is your TV show  theme song if your life was a TV show comedy?

c) What is your move theme song if  your life was an action movie?  –

We had some funny answers- what’s yours?

Life Can Be Like A Wheel

“Some people say life’s like a merry-go-round
I think it’s more like a ferris wheel
‘Cause sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down
Sometimes you just don’t know what to feel”  (Todd Rundgren)

It is just the way it seem to be. When you ride life’s wheel you have to be ready for the motions that make up the turns. You have to be prepared to know that there will be downs before ups, and know that the ups may not just be the opposite of the downward ride. It may be a whole new place to rise the height of the wheel.

Part of the trip ahead is the anticipation as things start to change. Not worth resistance it is the place you should enjoy as the wheel turns. When you see it heading down you can do things to help turn it faster the other way. On the other hand, when it is turning up you may not be able to slow it down, or it may take more time to get to the top.

“We are either progressing or retrograding all the while; there is no such thing as remaining stationary in this life.”
– James Freeman Clarke

Sometimes hearing the expression “just roll with it” reminds me of that. Making sure to roll with the changes, move with the day as God provided to us. Do the most with it, because how we spend each day is how we spend our lives.

Kindness

Another one of my life’s songs along with my previous post “Compassion” is this one from my favorite artist Todd Rundgren. It is called “Kindness”. It is an attitude and characteristic that seems so lost these days in some circles. There are people who show you kindness, and you have to remember what that feels like and share it back.

So much more anger and frustration these days leads to violence and uncaring attitudes. We all need to take the lessons of kindness and pass them on.

I don’t mean to keep posting music (let alone my fave artist) – but it hit me again how fortunate it is to give and receive kindness in our lives, and how often it may be missing on our mission here on Earth.

Kindness by Todd Rundgren

The one that showed me kindness
Was the one that taught me kindness
Though I did not recognize it
Still I might have died without it
And when I awakened
It was too late to thank her
If I live someday I’ll make repayment
And show someone the kindness she showed me

When my voice grows strident
When I feel important
I’m reminded of that kindness
And where I’d be without it
I’m learning my lessons
It may take me a lifetime
Give me strength to justify my being
And show someone the kindness shown to me

Compassion

I have always believed that one of the most valuable things you can posess in life is compassion.  What comes of that is the heart of the Spirit that is “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

Here is one of my life’s songs. Compassion (Todd Rundgren)

You want more, and still more,
Until you get more than you ever bargained for.
Now its plain, clear as rain,
I’ve seen your symptoms many times before.

Lying on your bed of pain
What will you have now?

What are riches untold in a life without compassion?
For there’s no winter as cold
as a life without compassion.
There’s no prescription that’s sold
that can heal you like compassion.

Well you tried and you cried,
And let your disappointment make you hard inside.
You have doubt, you reach out,
Still you’re the only one you care about.

Hiding in your sack of woe
What do you need now?

For there is nothing so sad
as a life without compassion.
And even love has turned bad,
it was love without compassion.
And you don’t need what you had
‘Cause you did not have compassion.

Dying on your bed of pain
What will you have now?

You’ll get no judgment from me,
I can only feel compassion.
And if that’s what you need,
I will give you my compassion.
Just don’t forget about me
‘Cause we all need some compassion.

Open up your heart
so you can start to feel compassion.
Get down on your knees,
pray to heaven for compassion.
Everybody needs compassion.
If you want to be healed
then you know you got to feel compasion

Sunshine Award

I have seen the Sunshine Award on several of the blogs I follow, and I always thought it was quite nice that a community of wordpress bloggers were reaching out to others in recognition. It was my lucky day when  Hope The Happy Hugger nominated me! You should visit her if you have not.  Thanks so very much for all the “hugs” ♥ and the award.

According to the award rules: Thank the person who nominated you “hugs!” and also nominate other bloggers and answer some questions about yourself:
